We want to inform all members that the age requirement for being at the pool unsupervised during open hours has recently changed. Please make sure to review the new age guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
These updates help us maintain a secure and family-friendly environment for all our swimmers. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to reach out to the club staff.
From Chip Lacy, President of CLFCA:
Hi neighbors,
I’ve been working closely with American Pool, our maintenance contractor, to sort out the minimum age rules for kids using our pool. We recently met with the Harris County pool inspector to get the straight facts on what’s required. Even though we run the pool as an HOA, the state of Texas classifies us as a Class C public pool. That means we’re required to post a sign that reads: “PERSONS UNDER THE AGE OF 14 MUST NOT BE IN THE POOL WITHOUT ADULT SUPERVISION.”
The inspector mentioned that enforcement can feel a bit hit-or-miss, but if we get inspected and are found out of compliance, it could lead to the pool being shut down — something nobody wants. So, American Pool has made the call to follow Texas law and require adult supervision for all children under 14.
Just to be clear, the HOA doesn’t make these laws, and part of my role is making sure we stay on the right side of them.
I know this is a pretty big shift from how things have been, and it’s definitely an emotional topic for a lot of us. I’m working with the Pool Committee and other folks who know this stuff well to explore any workable alternatives we might have. For the time being though, we do need every child under 14 to be with an adult in the pool.
I’ll be at the pool this Saturday from noon to 3:00 p.m. if you’d like to ask questions or share any suggestions. In the meantime, let’s all remember to treat our lifeguards and volunteer Pool Committee members with the kindness and respect we all deserve.
